James Taylor (1948) has been active as a singer, guitarist and songwriter since the late Sixties. Many - rightfully - regard him as the "father" of the singer-songwriter genre gat became popular in the early Seventies. His introspective songs, virtuoso acoustic guitar playing and warm voice immediately connected with an audience. This was reflected in a stream of many hit singles and albums. Among his most famous hits are "Fire and Rain", "You've Got a Friend", "Carolina In My Mind", "Handy Man", "Sweet Baby James" en "Little More Time with You". While his most famous songs may have been released over forty years ago, his career has everything but stagnated. He continuous to release new albums, and his live concerts are among the most successful and appreciated in the world.

James Taylor sings the American Songbook

Multiple media have this week mentioned that James Taylor is working on an album of American (Jazz) standards that is scheduled to be released fall of this year. For the album, James has worked with renowned Jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli and producer Dave O'Donnell, who also produced James' most recent albums.

In contrast to other albums with songs from the American songbook, James' album will be very much guitar-based, creating an album that highlights James' guitar arrangements of some of his favorite standards. We do not know yet which songs will be on the album, but in interviews James has named a few songs that have been recorded, such as "My Blue Heaven", "Teach Me Tonight", "God Bless the Child" and "Moon River".

Tour 2019

The official JT website has recently announced the first tour dates for 2019. More dates will be announced next week. Like in previous years, James Taylor and band will be joined by Bonnie Raitt and her band.

Additionally, James Taylor and band will do a limited 12 show run at Ceasar's Palace (Las Vegas) starting late April 2019.

James Taylor joins Joe Walsh and others for VetsAid 2018

On November 11, James Taylor will join Don Henley, Chris Stapleton and Haim for Joe Walsh's second annual music festival in support of service veterans.
